In an increasing number of countries, populist leaders, parties and movements have gained prominence and influence. Although it is widely assumed that the media and the role of communication are key to understanding the rise and success of populists actors, very little research has focused on the communicative aspects of populism. We present the first systematic review of what we know and don’t know about populist political communication in Europe.
